Activities in Playa del Carmen
Río Secreto
Located 25 metres below ground, Rio Secreto is an impressive system of ancient caves that can be explored on a two to three-hour excursion. Considered one of the new natural wonders of the world, it is well worth a visit to admire the visual spectacle created by the thousands of stalactites and stalagmites. Don't miss it!
Quinta Avenida
The most famous avenue on the Riviera Maya is also the quintessential symbol of Playa del Carmen. Along the 5km stretch, which runs parallel to the beach, you will find all kinds of shops and fashion boutiques, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, museums and art galleries.
Cenote Azul
Located south of Playa del Carmen (about a 20-minute drive), Cenote Azul is one of the main attractions on the Riviera Maya. This natural turquoise lagoon has shallow areas making it ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Cenote de Chaak Tun
Located very close to Playa del Carmen (access from Avenida Juárez), this cenote consists of one dry cave and two caverns with water, a small one with stalactites and artificial lighting, and a larger one with a cavity through which sunlight enters. This crystal-clear cenote is part of the largest underground river in the world, called Sac Actún.
